Notes: A short little 250 word piece I wrote while at work the other day.

The sound of a ball bouncing against the concrete breaks Nick from the daydream that he's caught up in. He can feel his heart racing and his stomach churning, afraid to turn around for fear of what he'll find. He knows what he wants to see, his best friend, soul mate and angel standing behind him, waiting for him to turn around so they can play. But the last time he got himself worked up and was hopeful, he was disappointed in the end. He wasn't sure if he could do that to himself again.

With each bounce the ball makes, Nick's heart beats just as loud. He hears them clear their throat and he closes his eyes while turning around. He can feel how impatient they are and he knows he's being childish, but he can't help it. His heart is still fragile from the last time Brian broke it and now the breaking has all been his own fault, for not getting over the older man when he knew he should have.

Needed to.

It wasn't meant to be, or at least that was what everyone told him. What Brian told him.

Well Nick didn't care what "God's" plan was, all he cared about was that he loved Brian and knew Brian loved him. In the end, that hadn't been enough. Slowly, he opens his eyes and his breath catches in his throat. He's there before him. Like an apparition.

"Screw God's plans Nicky. I like yours better."
