Love on the Road
by Jules

He picked Dwayne to join his band because he was a damn good guitarist. The best one that had auditioned so far. That was why after only one song, Nick stopped him. "That's enough. Thank you."

"But that was just the first song. You asked for four songs at the least. I still have 3 more to play for you." Dwayne cocked his head to the side and rest his arm on his guitar. He ran a hand through his curly hair with a finesse that Nick didn't think was practice. He simply WAS that cool. Nick tried to remain neutral as his stomach jumped.

"You don't need to play anymore for us. With that one song you've been better than the last fifty people. Every guy in the tri state area has auditioned, whether or not they can play or not just because being on tour with Nick Carter is going to get them, and I quote one guy, 'a shit load of pussy'. Whether or not you're in it for the music or the pussy, you're fucking good and you're in." Nick licked his lips and ran his sweaty palms over his jeans. He hoped that no one saw just how much this guy was affecting him. And he hoped to all hell that this guy wasn't in it just for the pussy, because if he was, that would really suck. Nick found himself grinning as Dwayne flashed him a toothy smile.

"Well you won't have to worry about that Nick. I'm all about the music."

It didn't give him any indication of sexual orientation, but at that moment, Nick didn't care. He'd found his lead guitarist, and if he was lucky, possibly more.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They'd been rehearsing for about three weeks, Nick finding himself more and more confused by Dwayne's actions. There were times when Nick felt his eyes focused on him, watching him with more than a casual glance. He was used to having people watching him all the time, and by now he could differentiate the different types of stares. So when Nick felt a gaze locked on him, hot and intense it sent a thrill down his spine that he didn't want to stop. He liked Dwayne's eyes on him and if truth be told, he wanted more than that on him. But as many times he felt the guitarist watching him intensely, he also seemed indifferent. Like Nick being there had no effect on him what so ever. It was driving him crazy and he didn't know what to do.
Dwayne had been giving Nick lessons, helping to improve his guitar playing. He'd been fooling around with guitars for years now, but hadn't really taken it seriously until now. The drums were always his instrument, the thing that he could play to take his frustrations out. Where he could just sit down and start playing, losing himself in the music as well as the motions of playing. They were his first love, but now with his new image and direction that his music has taken, he wanted to be able to play the guitar. Like, really play it. So he'd enlisted in Dwayne's help to teach him. For 10 years he'd been performing, but it was always singing and dancing. Never playing and singing at the same time and it was proving to be more difficult than he'd thought. That could be because his attention was focused more on his teacher than the guitar.
"Nick, you need to focus." Dwayne was always so cool. So calm and just so ...chill. He was the exact opposite of what Nick was and that fascinated him. Made him even more attractive than Nick already found him.
"I am focused man." Nick's leg was bouncing, he was tapping his guitar with his fingers and bobbing his head. He gave Dwayne a grin and his blue eyes sparkled.
"On what?" Nick had no idea how to answer that. It was as if Dwayne was looking for a specific answer, challenging him. Nick couldn't very well just say 'you', but it was the truth. It wasn't a big secret that he was bisexual, him bringing as many guys back to the tour bus as girls but for him to actually admit to Dwayne that since they'd met he'd been crushing on him, it was just too much. Instead, he blushed and averted his eyes, trying his damnedest to settle down. The only problem with that was that his reason for being so jumpy was sitting only a few inches away from him.
"Nothing." He raised his eyes and stared deep into Dwayne's, seeing something there. Something that he couldn't define but something that excited him. The other man simply shrugged and smiled.
"If you say so Carter."
The party was in full swing, had been for a few hours and Nick looked around the bus. There were tons of girls and a few guys chilling. But in this bus full of people, he felt alone. He was getting restless, nothing keeping his attention for more than a few seconds. Fresh air, he needed fresh air. Nick excused himself citing that he remembered something that he had to do and he'd be right back. The girls were so awed that they were on his bus, partying with him that they simply nodded and grinned at him.
The band's bus was parked just a few feet away and Nick could hear music coming from inside. He figured that everyone was still out for dinner, since they'd said that's what they were doing, but with the music playing, and it was live music, not a recording, someone must have come back early. Giving his own bus one last glance, Nick knocked on the door. He held his breath and flinched as the door opened, Dwayne standing on the steps. "Nick. What's up?"
All the breath whooshed out of his lungs and Nick felt his stomach jump and his groin tighten. "Just seeing what's going on over here."
"Don't you have a party going on over there?" Dwayne nodded his head towards Nick's bus which was still in full party mode. Nick shrugged and rolled his eyes.
"Whatever." He tried to ignore the fact that Dwayne had no shirt on and was only wearing a pair of loose slung jeans. Looking down at his feet, Nick saw Dwayne was barefoot and Nick had a surge of raw sexual energy flow through his veins. "Can I..?"
Dwayne nodded and moved up the stairs, allowing for Nick to enter. "It's a mess man. Haven't had time to clean." He didn't sound the least bit apologetic and Nick grinned because it was still cleaner than his bus ever was. Or ever would be. Dwayne went back to sit where he'd previously been sitting, picked up his guitar and started to play. Nick recognized it as one of the new songs they were going to start playing on the tour. He watched silently while the other man got lost in the music, practically forgetting Nick was there. When he was finished, Nick sighed.
"That was so solid man." Dwayne smiled and Nick could detect a slight blush.
"Thanks." He nodded towards a guitar that was laying out, indicating he wanted Nick to pick it up. When they were both ready, Dwayne started to jam, Nick joining in when he caught the flow that was being played. They sat facing one another, losing themselves in the music and the atmosphere around them, Nick's eyes locked on Dwayne's. There was something powerful between them. They stopped playing, both breathing heavy and skin ashen with sweat. "You're getting better Carter."
Nick blushed at the compliment. "Good teacher." He winked at Dwayne, both men laughing. Nick suddenly wanted to impress this man. He knew that his usual tricks wouldn't work because Dwayne didn't give a shit that he was Nick Carter, ex-backstreet boy now turned solo artist. Nick thought that maybe that was part of the attraction. Not only was Dwayne this amazing person, but he wasn't impressed with Nick like the rest of the world was. He didn't bow down and worship him like he was some freakish icon. He treated him just like everyone else. "Wanna play something for you."
Dwayne nodded, sitting back to relax. Nick began to play from his heart. His eyes fluttered shut and his lower lip caught between his teeth, the music flowing through his fingers to the air. Words began to flow from his mouth and the lyrics accompanied the music, causing for everything in the bus to reach a stand still. Nick couldn't even hear Dwayne's breathing any longer. When finished, he looked up to meet Dwayne's eyes.
"So?"
"Unbelievable." The expression on the man's face told Nick he was serious. Dwayne looked stunned. Awed. Nick didn't know if he should tell him that it was he that inspired the song. It was he that Nick had in mind when writing and composing it. He felt his cheeks heat up.
"Just something I've been working on." Their eyes met and Nick felt a jolt of awareness flow through his body. Something unspoken lay between them as the air became noticeably thicker. Nervously, Nick ran his fingers through his hair, jerking as Dwayne reached out to grab his hand. He held his breath as the other man inspected his fingers gently.
"You're a true guitarist now Carter." Dwayne's voice was soft, breathy. Both men could feel the electricity between them. When Nick gave him a look of confusion, they both smiled. "You've got rough fingers ...from playing the cords without a pick. You've got guitarist hands."
Nick's eyes moved down to where their hands were joined and tightened his fingers around Dwayne's. He didn't care if he was making a mistake, he just wanted the other man to know at least a little of what he was feeling. Judging from the way Dwayne didn't move his hands away, Nick thought maybe he wasn't the only one. "I like your hands." And suddenly they were a lot closer than they had been. Nick could feel Dwayne's breath on his cheek and he tilted his head just enough so that their noses were nearly touching.
"You've been gone a while. Don't you think they're going to wonder where you are?"
Nick's eyes twinkled and his lips curled into a smirk. "Do I care?" Dwayne shook his head and Nick took the opportunity to lean in and press their lips together softly. He took a few nips of Dwayne's lower lip before darting his tongue out in a fleeting lick. As quickly as it started, he pulled away and exhaled. "I should get back though. Make sure no one steals nothin." Dwayne nodded, their gaze never breaking. "Wanna come with?" There was a hopeful sparkle in Nick's eyes.
"Shouldn't man. Not really interested in a big scene right now."
Nick nodded and stood, feeling better at that moment than he had in weeks.
>From that night on, things had changed slightly between Nick and Dwayne. It wasn't anything that anyone else had noticed, it was more just between the two of them. They still goofed of as much as they did before, always playing around together, but they felt more comfortable doing it. Nick didn't have to wonder if Dwayne minded him always hanging off of him while watching a movie on the bus. The awkwardness between them, which Nick had been certain would have gotten thicker, was nearly gone, neither man afraid of what the other would think. If they were being too forward, too anything. Gazes lingered, fleeting touches were no longer so brief and Nick found himself partying less. Not a lot less, but now Dwayne seemed to always be in attendance, sitting in arms reach if need be. But as close as they were getting, that hint of a kiss was the only intimate contact that they'd had and it left Nick craving more.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

They were at a club. It was a rare night off and everyone was going stir crazy on the busses. So someone suggested they go out and just enjoy themselves. So after arguing on where to go, they finally decided on a club and arrangements were made for the VIP room. Nick was clad in a pair of jeans and a tee shirt, not exactly feeling like getting all primped up. He'd spent about an hour watching Dwayne talk to some girl, their bodies getting considerably closer, his rage getting considerably stronger. At one point he'd even seen the other man look over in his direction and smile, as if telling Nick something. That the kiss they'd shared was nice but that was it. He'd moved on. His stomach fell.

Purposefully, Nick strode to the bar, ordering a shot of tequila and a beer. He was Nick Carter for fuck's sake, he didn't need this shit. It wasn't until he was halfway through his beer that someone approached him. She was tall and thin, long blonde hair that seemed to cup her perfect breasts. Almost accentuating them. She'd do just fine. He was just drunk enough not to care about anything but getting Dwayne off of his mind. Within seconds, Nick and the blonde were on the dance floor, grinding seductively, Nick's tongue drawing patterns on her jaw. Out of the corner of his eye he saw the look of shock on Dwayne's face. It was shock mixed in with confusion and disappointment. Nick felt as though someone had kicked him in the gut. At that exact moment, another man joined them where they were standing and Nick watched him pull the girl in for a long hug and kiss, giving Dwayne a handshake when he was done.

He had made a huge mistake and while the blonde's tongue was currently down his throat, Nick tried to pry himself out of her grasp. "Gotta ..go." He grunted, finally getting away.

"Good, I'm ready to get out of here." She thought he meant they were leaving together. That she was invited. Nick would have laughed if he wasn't so focused on the sight of Dwayne's back, heading towards the exit.

"Not us babe. Me. There's been an emergency." He didn't wait for her reaction, only nodding at his bodyguard and following the guitarist out of the club. "WAIT. DWAYNE!"

The other man didn't stop, in fact, picking up his pace. Nick ran to catch up with him, not wanting to call attention to himself on the quasi busy street but needing to get to him before he took off in a cab. Nick called

again and watched as Dwayne climbed into a taxi. It took off before he could catch up. Throwing his hands up in the air, Nick howled in frustration. "Nick. Let's go." Ron was behind him, waiting with the car. Nick flashed him a grateful smile and hopped in, driving to the hotel they'd checked into for the night. The entire ride back he wondered what he would say and if Dwayne would even listen. They needed to have this talk and they needed to have it now. They'd been dancing around the issue for far too long.

"Tell him kid." Nick turned his head to look at his bodyguard, his face expressionless.

"Tell him what exactly?"

"What you've been too much of a chicken to since he auditioned. Start with how you feel about him and go from there. You might be surprised."

Nick felt his cheeks flame and he looked out the window, watching the city fly past him. He thought that he'd been so good at hiding his feelings, but now apparently Ron knew exactly what was on his mind. The touch of a hand on his arm caused for him to jerk slightly. "It's not just you kid. The two of you have this ....connection. The fans can see it, the crew can see it. We just don't know if you two can see it."

"What...?"

Ron smiled warmly at him. "When you're on stage, you just drift automatically to his side. To where he is. When you're rehearsing, the two of you share looks, jokes ...touches that you don't with anyone else. When you're chillin together, you two are always practically on top of each other. We just don't know why neither of you have done anything."

"I don't know." Nick felt butterflies in his stomach as they pulled into the hotel. He was suddenly nervous and didn't know if he should go up to talk to him. Ron made the decision for him.

"Go. I'm taking you up there before you two waste any more time." The elevator was silent up to the room that Nick knew Dwayne was staying in. Ron knocked and Nick stood frozen, feeling his stomach churn. The door opened and before them Dwayne stood, his face hard, eyebrows furrowed.

"What?"

"Go." Ron gave Nick a gentle shove and turned to Dwayne. "Work it out boys."

Suddenly, they were alone and Dwayne walked back into the hotel room, leaving Nick standing at the door. When Nick didn't follow, he was back across the room, pulling the blonde inside and shutting the door forcefully. They stood face to face. "Where's the chick?"

"Hell if I know. Hell if I care."

Dwayne gave a sarcastic chuckle. "You seemed to care with your tongue down her throat."

"That was HER tongue down MY throat thank you very much." Dwayne gave a soft chuckle and Nick felt hope rise in his chest. That hope gave him a burst of courage. "Wanted it to be your tongue though." The two men stared at each other, Dwayne trying to figure out of Nick was serious, Nick wondering if he'd gone too far. When Dwayne said nothing, Nick continued. "Thought you were picking up that girl and got jealous so when that girl asked me to dance, I said yes." Nick found himself up against the wall, their bodies inches apart.

"I told myself I wasn't going to be like them." Their noses were touching and breath mingling between their lips that were open slightly. "That I wasn't going to follow you around like a love sick puppy, praying you'd notice me. So I stayed away. Or at least I tried to."

"Huh?"

"That day, you wanted to know if I was about the music or the pussy." Nick nodded. "I said I wasn't about the pussy, and I was serious." Nick watched Dwayne blush and leaned in, nuzzling his cheek with his nose.

"Should I have asked if you were in it for the cock and ass?" Nick received a low growl in response.

"Just yours," Dwayne whispered, leaning into Nick's touch. His hands had made it into Nick's blonde spikes, fingers gripping the locks tightly. Their lips hovered at the edge of the kiss. "It wasn't until I walked in that day that I realized how fucking beautiful you are. How sexy. I don't now how I managed to play that song so well with my dick so god damned hard and my pulse racing like crazy. Thought everyone in the room could tell how hot I was for you."

Nick was stunned. He'd had no idea that Dwayne was even remotely affected by him, since the other man hadn't even seemed to notice he was there. "Not a clue." His tongue darted out to lick at Dwayne's lips as their bodies pressed tightly together.

"I see hundreds of girls a day throwing themselves at you. Guys too and ...I don't want to be one of them. I don't want to be a nameless fuck in a nameless city with you just leaving the experience remembering me as the guitarist you fucked because he was there and you were horny. I want to be more than that, so I waited. I wanted to know if you wanted me."

Nick covered Dwayne's mouth with his own, kissing him like he'd wanted to since they first met. Like he'd wanted to every day since. Their tongues tangled between their lips and Nick sighed into his mouth, losing himself in the moment. He finally found his voice when the kiss broke. "I did ...do. Have since you walked into the room that day and started playing. God ....I've wanted you so much." Nick's hips began to grind into Dwayne's, their swollen cocks getting harder between them from the friction. It was amazing how he'd gone to watching this man from afar, brimming with jealousy to being in his hotel room, finding out that the feelings he'd been harbouring, Dwayne had been fighting too. Nick felt as though he was on top of the world. His face was captured between two rough hands, thumbs stroking his cheek gently.

"And then you kissed me that night on my bus. I couldn't believe it, that you were there with me while there was a bus full of people waiting for you." Their lips came together again, this time the kiss slow and languid. Nick felt Dwayne's tongue everywhere in his mouth, goose bumps decorating his skin. "But I didn't know what it meant. How you meant it. I knew you'd been partying pretty hard, so I ...."

Nick shook his head. "I meant it. That was me, not the alcohol or anything else."

"I saw a girl and a guy leaving the next morning and...." Both men blushed at Dwayne's admission, Nick's eyes flickering away from the intense gaze. They were still pressed tightly against the wall, able to feel each rise and fall of the other's chest. "Well thought that was a sign."

"I went back to the bus and little by little everyone started to leave. The girl was all over me all night and as soon as she started to kiss me, started to get something going I just went soft. Couldn't get it up to save my life so I told her I must have been too wasted to do anything. She was disappointed, but the guy that was there told her he was good to go and so they took my bed and ...well they fucked there while I went to sleep in the other room. Thinking of you."

Dwayne was shocked and it showed on his face. Nick nodded as if to assure him he was telling the truth. "Really?" Nick's response was to press their lips together.

"Really." Nick pushed off of the wall and led Dwayne further into the room towards the bed. "You know, Ron says that everyone knows about us. Everyone but us of course." Dwayne giggled causing Nick to do the same. "He wondered what's taken us so long. That even the fans can see something going on between us."

"They probably see how I can't stop staring at your hot ass! Especially when you're dancing around with it up in the air." They fell onto the bed together, giggling like little kids. Dwayne's hands went to cup Nick's ass to pull them closer. "How much I want to touch it, and find out how hot and tight it is."

Nick moaned, bringing their mouths together once more. They rolled so that Nick was on the bottom and Dwayne was on his knees, pulling deftly on his jeans. It took almost no time before they were both naked and achingly hard. "I have waited so long for this," Nick admitted shyly stroking Dwayne's face above him. He held his breath as Dwayne positioned his legs over his shoulders, opening him up wide.

"Me too." Dwayne prepared himself by sheathing his erection in a condom and coating it with a sufficient amount of lube from the table beside him. When ready, he focused his attention back to Nick. "And now that we're here, this is what I want. Us. No more groupies. No more anything. Is that okay with you?" Nick could tell how nervous the other man was at his request. "I don't think I could handle knowing that you were ...with someone else. Just watching you dance with another girl was hard, but to know you're fucking her ...or even him would kill me."

Nick understood because he felt the same way. "Of course baby. Oh god, I wouldn't even think of it. Just you."

"You can still party, but just ..."

"You'll be there for when everyone goes home and I'm horny as hell." Nick grinned as Dwayne nodded enthusiastically.

"As long as it's my bed you're coming home to at night..."

"Every night." The kiss they shared was hot and wet, tongues licking and mouths tasting and Nick felt just a little jolt of discomfort as Dwayne pushed into him forcefully. It was one solid thrust before Nick's legs were spread open as wide as they could go, a white heat flowing up his spine to the tips of his fingers and toes. He'd never felt so good in his life. Their bodies moved rhythmically, working each other expertly. With every thrust in, Nick would stroke his own cock, bringing him closer to the edge of his orgasm. Dwayne leaned

down to take Nick's mouth in a frenzied kiss, his tongue held hostage in the other man's mouth. They continued on like this for what seemed like an eternity, Nick's body trembling with each jab to his prostate, Dwayne's body drenched in sweat from exertion. Finally, it was too much for either man to hold onto.

"Gonna let go Nicky. Too tight, too hot."

Nick didn't have time to respond before Dwayne's body twitched violently above him and he exploded, cumming long and hard inside of him. With two more strokes, Nick also found himself mid orgasm, unable to feel anything except the motions of Dwayne above him.

Before they knew it, they were curled tightly together, panting for breath, bodies still tingling with electricity.

Dwayne was the first to break the silence. "If they thought they knew something before tonight, I wonder what they're going to see from now on. Now that something really IS happening." Nick's response was a sated giggle and a kiss to Dwayne's lips.
