"Just something I've been working on." Their eyes met and Nick felt a jolt of awareness flow through his
body. Something unspoken lay between them as the air became noticeably thicker. Nervously, Nick ran his
fingers through his hair, jerking as Dwayne reached out to grab his hand. He held his breath as the other man
inspected his fingers gently.
"You're a true guitarist now Carter." Dwayne's voice was soft, breathy. Both men could feel the electricity
between them. When Nick gave him a look of confusion, they both smiled. "You've got rough fingers ...from
playing the cords without a pick. You've got guitarist hands."
Nick's eyes moved down to where their hands were joined and tightened his fingers around Dwayne's. He
didn't care if he was making a mistake, he just wanted the other man to know at least a little of what he was
feeling. Judging from the way Dwayne didn't move his hands away, Nick thought maybe he wasn't the only
one. "I like your hands." And suddenly they were a lot closer than they had been. Nick could feel Dwayne's
breath on his cheek and he tilted his head just enough so that their noses were nearly touching.
"You've been gone a while. Don't you think they're going to wonder where you are?"
Nick's eyes twinkled and his lips curled into a smirk. "Do I care?" Dwayne shook his head and Nick took the
opportunity to lean in and press their lips together softly. He took a few nips of Dwayne's lower lip before
darting his tongue out in a fleeting lick. As quickly as it started, he pulled away and exhaled. "I should get back
though. Make sure no one steals nothin." Dwayne nodded, their gaze never breaking. "Wanna come with?"
There was a hopeful sparkle in Nick's eyes.
"Shouldn't man. Not really interested in a big scene right now."
Nick nodded and stood, feeling better at that moment than he had in weeks.

>From that night on, things had changed slightly between Nick and Dwayne. It wasn't anything that anyone
else had noticed, it was more just between the two of them. They still goofed of as much as they did before,
always playing around together, but they felt more comfortable doing it. Nick didn't have to wonder if Dwayne
minded him always hanging off of him while watching a movie on the bus. The awkwardness between them,
which Nick had been certain would have gotten thicker, was nearly gone, neither man afraid of what the other
would think. If they were being too forward, too anything. Gazes lingered, fleeting touches were no longer so
brief and Nick found himself partying less. Not a lot less, but now Dwayne seemed to always be in
attendance, sitting in arms reach if need be. But as close as they were getting, that hint of a kiss was the only
intimate contact that they'd had and it left Nick craving more.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They were at a club. It was a rare night off and everyone was going stir crazy on the busses. So someone
suggested they go out and just enjoy themselves. So after arguing on where to go, they finally decided on a
club and arrangements were made for the VIP room. Nick was clad in a pair of jeans and a tee shirt, not exactly
feeling like getting all primped up. He'd spent about an hour watching Dwayne talk to some girl, their bodies
getting considerably closer, his rage getting considerably stronger. At one point he'd even seen the other
man look over in his direction and smile, as if telling Nick something. That the kiss they'd shared was nice but
that was it. He'd moved on. His stomach fell.
Purposefully, Nick strode to the bar, ordering a shot of tequila and a beer. He was Nick Carter for fuck's sake,
he didn't need this shit. It wasn't until he was halfway through his beer that someone approached him. She
was tall and thin, long blonde hair that seemed to cup her perfect breasts. Almost accentuating them. She'd
do just fine. He was just drunk enough not to care about anything but getting Dwayne off of his mind. Within
seconds, Nick and the blonde were on the dance floor, grinding seductively, Nick's tongue drawing patterns
on her jaw. Out of the corner of his eye he saw the look of shock on Dwayne's face. It was shock mixed in with
confusion and disappointment. Nick felt as though someone had kicked him in the gut. At that exact
moment, another man joined them where they were standing and Nick watched him pull the girl in for a long
hug and kiss, giving Dwayne a handshake when he was done.
He had made a huge mistake and while the blonde's tongue was currently down his throat, Nick tried to pry
himself out of her grasp. "Gotta ..go." He grunted, finally getting away.
"Good, I'm ready to get out of here." She thought he meant they were leaving together. That she was invited.
Nick would have laughed if he wasn't so focused on the sight of Dwayne's back, heading towards the exit.
"Not us babe. Me. There's been an emergency." He didn't wait for her reaction, only nodding at his
bodyguard and following the guitarist out of the club. "WAIT. DWAYNE!"
The other man didn't stop, in fact, picking up his pace. Nick ran to catch up with him, not wanting to call
attention to himself on the quasi busy street but needing to get to him before he took off in a cab. Nick called
